Letter from Board Chairman, William Cayen

On behalf of the MSGCU Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce Steve Brewer as our new President/CEO. He succeeds Pete Gates, who retired in 2022.

Pete’s 24-year tenure at the helm of MSGCU was one of progress and growth. His focus on giving back to our members led to market-leading rates, low fees, service improvements, enhanced financial literacy efforts, and a robust community giving program. Under his leadership and knowledge, we have been recognized as a Top Workplace for the past 10 years and have received a 95% or higher member satisfaction rating for over 20 years. We thank Pete for his leadership, his dedication, and hard work on behalf of our membership. We wish him a long and healthy retirement.

Steve has also played an instrumental role in our successes, serving as our Chief Financial Officer for the last 20 years. During our nationwide search, Steve stood out for his successful track record combined with his commitment to MSGCU’s mission and values. We look forward to him continuing MSGCU’s tradition of exceptional member service, and giving back to our members and communities we serve.

Letter from Steve Brewer, President/CEO

Leading MSGCU into the future as President/CEO is a great honor. Having served at MSGCU as Chief Financial Officer for the past 20 years, I am proud to have been part of the growth and success of this organization. My commitment to our mission of being a caring organization dedicated to promoting financial success for our members remains, and I will lead with a dedication to providing value, maintaining financial strength, and investing in the future needs of our members.

You have a choice in where you bank, and we commit to demonstrating our appreciation for allowing MSGCU to be your financial champion. We will do this by continuing to provide value through no and low fees and market-leading rates, combined with exceptional member service and a commitment to continual improvements in making it easy to access your money.

In 2022, our promise to provide value and increase access resulted in expanding our branch network to serve members in Washtenaw County, and lowering and eliminating certain fees to help keep money in your pockets. MSGCU also added convenient services to make banking easier and faster this year.

Financial success allows us to enhance our products and services and to improve the neighborhoods we serve. This year MSGCU provided over $265,000 to our local communities through our annual scholarship program, Classroom Cash Grants, and branch Giving Back donations. This includes providing 92 local schools with $750 grants to stock their libraries after shelves were depleted following the pandemic. MSGCU team members also volunteered almost 1,000 hours in our communities. In 2023, we will find new ways to support our neighbors, as well as continue to deliver the charitable programs our members have told us are important.

MSGCU is honored when members refer their friends and family members to us, and we are looking forward to revitalizing our referral program in 2023. An exciting new program is also coming soon to help you obtain a loan in under a minute, with no credit score needed. It’s called Member Fast Cash, and you’ll learn more about it and the referral program in the months ahead.

As we start a new year, I thank you for your continued trust in MSGCU. As always, we are here and ready to talk with you about your financial goals.

-Steve Brewer, President/CEO
