Rudolph Heino People Helping People Scholarship
Who is Eligible to Apply?
This scholarship is open to high school seniors within the MSGCU field of membership who attend a high school or technical campus in the communities that MSGCU serves. MSGCU Scholarship recipients may only receive one MSGCU Scholarship over the course of their lifetime. Previous applicants that have not received a scholarship may apply again, given they still meet the eligibility requirements. Non-members may apply, but must become a member if selected as a scholarship recipient. Member accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).
Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Graduating high school senior in the class of 2025.
- Proof of acceptance to an accredited two- or four-year college or university.
- Resume outlining community service, school activities, and academic achievements.
- 250-500 word essay explaining how the applicant exemplifies the "people helping people" philosophy.
- Essay must be an original piece written by the applicant and AI generated responses are not allowed.
- High school transcript.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher
- Employees and officials of MSGCU, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling or spouse) and/or persons living in their household are not eligible for any MSGCU scholarships.
- Application received by February 25, 2025 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
How Are Recipients Selected?
Recipients of the Rudolph Heino People Helping People Scholarship are selected based on a number of criteria, including:
- Community service and outreach
- School activities and involvement
- Academic achievement (including GPA)
- Letter of recommendation
- Essay
- Other outstanding achievements
Letter of Recommendation
Teachers are required to create a SurveyMonkey Apply account to submit their letter of recommendation. Applicants will find directions for how to initiate the letter of recommendation request in their SurveyMonkey Apply account. Applications will be formally accepted once the letter of recommendation is received and must be submitted by the application deadline.
Award Description
There are fifteen (15) MSGCU Rudolph Heino People Helping People Scholarships available, each worth $2,500. They are one-time, non-renewable scholarships. Distribution will be made during the month of July 2025, payable directly to the college/university financial aid office. Scholarship funds may be applied to any component of the school's comprehensive expenses (including tuition, books, lab fees, or on-campus room and board).
Award Notification
Award recipients and non-recipients will be notified by May 2025.
Larry Swantek Educational Studies Scholarship
Who is Eligible to Apply?
This scholarship is open to high school seniors within the MSGCU field of membership who plan to major in Education. This scholarship is also open to college students within the MSGCU field of membership who are currently majoring in Education. MSGCU Scholarship recipients may only receive one MSGCU Scholarship over the course of their lifetime. Previous applicants that have not received a scholarship may apply again, given they still meet the eligibility requirements. Non-members may apply, but must become a member if selected as a scholarship recipient. Member accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).
Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Graduating high school senior in the class of 2025 planning to major in Education or current college student enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university School of Education
- Official college transcript as proof of acceptance into School of Education at accredited two- or four-year college or university (college applicants only).
- High school transcript (high school senior applicants only).
- Proof of acceptance into School of Education at accredited two- or four-year university (high school senior applicants only).
- Resume outlining school activities, academic achievements, and community service.
- 500-1,000 word essay explaining the most important lesson that the applicant plans to teach their students both in and out of the classroom.
- Essay must be an original piece written by the applicant and AI generated responses are not allowed.
- Employees and officials of MSGCU, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling or spouse) and/or persons living in their household are not eligible for any MSGCU scholarships.
- Application received by February 25, 2025 at 10:00 p.m. EST.

Milo Perreault Educator Advancement Scholarship
Who is Eligible to Apply?
This scholarship is open to certified educators and administrators within the MSGCU field of membership. MSGCU Scholarship recipients may only receive one MSGCU Scholarship over the course of their lifetime. Previous applicants that have not received a scholarship may apply again, given they still meet the eligibility requirements. Non-members may apply, but must become a member if selected as a scholarship recipient. Member accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).
Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Must be a certified educator (early childhood, primary, secondary, or post-secondary).
- Applicant must be currently enrolled or accepted into a college, university, or other learning program.
- Official college transcript or acceptance letter as proof of enrollment into a college, university, or other learning program.
- Resume outlining both academic achievements and employment history.
- 250-500 word essay on either how advancing education will benefit and help the applicant’s students, or, explaining an important lesson the applicants teach in their classroom.
- Essay must be an original piece written by the applicant and AI generated responses are not allowed.
- A letter of recommendation from an administrator (principal, superintendent, etc.)
- Employees and officials of MSGCU, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling or spouse) and/or persons living in their household are not eligible for any MSGCU scholarships.

William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship
Who is Eligible to Apply?
This scholarship is open to high school seniors and those currently enrolled at a skilled trades school.
High school students must reside within the MSGCU field of membership and attend a high school or technical campus in the communities that MSGCU serves. This scholarship is also open to students currently enrolled at a not-for-profit or private vocational skilled trades school located in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Wayne County. MSGCU Scholarship recipients may only receive one MSGCU Scholarship over the course of their lifetime. Previous applicants that have not received a scholarship may apply again, given they still meet the eligibility requirements. Non-members may apply, but must become a member if selected as a scholarship recipient. Member accounts must be in good standing with this Credit Union (i.e. no delinquent or charged-off loans and a positive balance in all accounts).
Other eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Graduating high school senior in the class of 2025 pursuing a skilled trades certificate at a school in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Wayne County, or a student currently enrolled at an accredited not-for-profit public school or private vocational skilled trades school located in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Wayne County.
- High school transcript (high school senior applicants only).
- Proof of acceptance into an accredited not-for-profit public school or private vocational skilled trades school. (High school senior applicants only).
- Skilled trades school transcript (Students currently enrolled in a skilled trades program only.)
- William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship offers two scholarships of $2,500 each to skilled trades students pursuing certification in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, HVAC, automotive, construction, or skilled trades programs.
- Answer three short questions. Question answers must be originally written by the applicant and AI generated responses are not allowed.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.50.
- Employees and officials of MSGCU, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling or spouse) and/or persons living in their household are not eligible for any MSGCU scholarships.
- Application received by February 25, 2025 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
How Are Recipients Selected?
Recipients of the William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship are selected based on a number of criteria, including:
- Answers to questions asked
- Academic achievement
Award Description
There are two (2) MSGCU William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarships available, each worth $2,500. They are one-time, non-renewable scholarships to be used for future studies only. Distribution will be made during the month of July 2025, payable directly to the institution’s financial aid office. Scholarship funds may be applied to tuition, fees, and books.
Additional Specifications
Skilled trades programs include but are not limited to: Automobile & Collision Servicing, Building Construction, CNC Mill & Machining, Construction Management, Construction Technology, HVAC, Machine Tool Technology, Maintenance Technology, Robotics & Automated Systems Tech, Roofing, Welding, or other approved skilled trades programs.
